Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)

A cone beam CT scan is a type of x-ray that allows us to see specifics about your oral and facial health. This scan is more than just an x-ray because it allows us to identify nerve pathways, soft tissue, and bone before treating you. This provides us with a clear picture of your oral health, making treatment easier and more effective for you. In our office, the scan takes only seconds and produces a highly detailed image.

How Does Cbct Work?

Unlike traditional 2-D X-rays, a CBCT machine rotates around the body, taking a large number of images with a cone-shaped X-ray beam, which the computer then binds together to give us a three-dimensional view of structures. This type of imaging provides us with more information to work with when diagnosing, treating, and preparing you for oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures like dental implant placement and wisdom tooth removal.

Radiation & CBCT

Excessive radiation exposure, as with any X-ray procedure, increases the risk of cancer. However, CBCT machines emit less radiation than traditional CT scanners and are used only when a more comprehensive image than traditional X-rays can provide is required. Please let us know if you believe you may be pregnant.
