Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is a safe and common procedure used to save or retain a severely compromised tooth. The dental pulp, which is made up of blood vessels and nerves that provide nutrition to the tooth, is located at the core of your tooth.

The pulp keeps the tooth alive. If you notice sensitivity to hot or cold stimuli, discomfort when biting, or swelling, the pulp may have become inflamed or infected. This can be caused by decay, cracks, trauma, deep fillings, or tooth wear.

If you notice any of these symptoms, you should make an appointment with your dentist. Your dentist will most likely remove the pulp if it is irreversibly damaged or has died.

The treatment is intended to remove bacteria from the root canal system and to prevent reinfection. Root canal therapy allows you to keep your natural tooth, promoting normal function.

When compared to a replacement denture or an implant, your natural tooth usually feels and functions better.
